Supermodel Kate Moss leads a cavalcade of fashion’s top models, from Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone and Joan Smalls to Malgosia Bela, Edita Vilkevicute and Milla Jovovich, for the 2012 edition of the iconic Pirelli Calendar.
Unfortunately, the calendar can’t be bought in stores. It’s mailed out to a select audience of fashion industry types and those connected with the Pirelli auto tire empire.

The 2012 Pirelli Calendar Models: Isabeli Fontana, Natasha Poly, Saskia de Brauw, Lara Stone, Joan Smalls, Guinevere Van Seenus, Malgosia, Edita Vilkevicute, Kate Moss, Milla Jovovich, Margareth Made, and Rinko Kikuchi.
Pirelli unveiled the 2012 calendar at a black-tie gala, held at the Park Avenue Armory in Manhattan earlier this week.
Julianne Moore hosted the event, which featured a performance by Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.
Top fashion photographer Mario Sorrenti shot the calendar with 12 models and actresses in natural settings in forests and on the beach on the sun-kissed isle of Corsica. The calendar includes 25 photos.
“You know, originally I thought I was going to do very sexy pictures, and when we got there I realized that I didn’t want the pictures to be sexy at all,” Sorrenti said at the time of the shoot.
“I didn’t want them to be posing and arching and like sticking their boobs in my face or anything like that,” he added.
But arch they do in some stunning, provocative, but ultimately arty poses. No open crotches here, but plenty of smooth curves and supple breasts.
“We tried to keep it very simple, there were times where we did just photographs with the model and myself and there was no one around. I think that was the moment when I was able to capture some of the most beautiful photographs,” he said.
“You kind of lose yourself and you go with the flow of the moment and just let things happen.”
Sorrenti had a special eye for Moss, his ex-girlfriend. “Kate, I’ve known for 20 years. I can’t do this without her,” he said.

Looking at these photos the first thought is why nude? The nudity is passe, so over done and unimaginative. And these girls are a horsey, boney-assed, lot to have to choose from. Not really interesting or beautiful. The photographer makes the girls seem ridiculous and they seem to know it too. Awkward.
I’m sure the dirty old men this calendar likely goes to won’t mind.
