Rooney Mara's Lustful Girl With Dragon Tattoo

Rooney Mara’s searing nude scenes in “Girl With the Dragon Tattoo” were no barrier to her best actress nomination at the Academy Awards. The young star’s performance is beyond hot.

The film has finally made its debut on DVD and Blu-Ray, and it’s definitely worth watching again.

Director David Fincher etched the movie with a lot of fine-grained detail involving its complex characters. Its plot is enmeshed in a dark world of sexual violence, corporate corruption and latent Nazism in Swedish society.

Mara, 25, plays the nihilist anti-hero opposite Daniel Craig, who plays crusading journalist Mikael Blomkvist. The film is based on the late Stieg Larsson’s international best-selling crime series “Millennium Trilogy.”

“It was hell for her,” Craig said in an interview about Mara’s difficult role. “She just was put through the mill.

“A number of people wanted the part, and there was a lot of discussion and debate and arguments and probably shouting. Rooney really nailed it.”

Indeed, Kristen Stewart, Keira Knightley, Carey Mulligan, Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johansson were all said to have expressed interest in the role.

In the Swedish version of the movie, Noomi Rapace played Salander and went on to film two more sequels “The Girl Who Played With Fire” and “The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest.”

Both Craig and Rooney have signed on for two follow-ups as well. The DVD and Blu-Ray version of the film will be released Mar. 20. Only the Blu-Ray edition has extended features. The DVD only includes David Fitcher’s commentary.

Dragon Tattoo earned nearly $230 million worldwide during its theatrical run. The Swedish films have become cult classics. And the American version could do the same.
